US August and September nonfarm payrolls revised up by 84,000
Recent revisions by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics show a significant increase in nonfarm payrolls for August and September. The adjustments suggest a stronger job market than previously reported.
What was reported
August nonfarm payrolls were revised from 133,000 to 186,000, an increase of 53,000.
September nonfarm payrolls were revised from 29,000 to 60,000, an increase of 31,000.
The total revision for both months amounts to an upward adjustment of 84,000 nonfarm jobs.
Why it matters
Nonfarm payrolls are a key indicator of employment trends in the US economy, tracking the number of jobs added or lost in all sectors except agriculture. These revisions are important as they provide a clearer picture of employment strength and can influence economic policy and market expectations.
